Description

Rediscover your purpose in life and your passion for life.

In Garden City, join pastor and New York Times bestselling author John Mark Comer as you explore the Bible's vision for work, rest, and living fully human.

The mantra for many in our culture is that we work to live. People aim to make as much money as possible, in as little time as possible, with as little effort as possible, so they can get off work and go do something else.

What a miserable way to live.

No wonder we are so unhappy, grouchy, and angsty. We've lost something central to who we are as humans.

In the Bible, the book of Genesis paints a very different picture of what it means to be truly human—we don't work to live; we live to work. From the very first pages of the Bible, human beings were made to rule over and care for the earth. By calling and by commission, humanity was created to do good work. In Garden City, you will explore this biblical vision and discover that, ultimately, what you do matters just as much as who you are. Along the way, you will explore important and practical questions:
Does God care where I work?Does he have a clear direction for me?How can I create a rhythm for work and a practice of rest?
This book isn't about how to get ahead in your career or spruce up your resume—it's about working, resting, and living a full and satisfying existence. It's about spiritual life invading all of life.

Read this book in a day, perspective about work and rest radically changed, and I’m ready to put into practice the vital things this book shared. Read it but be warned that it will change your whole perspective on work and rest.

This is by far the best book I have ever read. And it has inspired me to look for more biblical education. Out of all the years I have tried to understand scripture, I relate to this and think I understand, at least the first few verses of the very first book. Who would guessed you could write a book about that. And make everything crystal clear. I do have a purpose. This author is so down to earth that even I get it. God bless you for such a wonderful and super important interpretation. And a great sense of humor too.

John Mark makes so many amazing points that get overlooked for so many Christians today. This book changed my life and is helping me embrace and find the life that God has called me to. I feel so much more peace and purpose after JM dropped some knowledge with this one. You have to read it. -David
