way too wordy - a lot of really unnecessary fillers and politics - I couldn't bring myself to even go through 20% of the book.

A page turner! Takes you inside of Ground Branch and all that it entails. Jack Carr is an excellent writer! You won’t regret your time with this book. In to the next.
  • A good continuation of Reece’s story

I thought the pacing, story, and characters were written well. The author knows how to keep your interest while explaining things in detail, so it feels like you’re learning something. You can definitely see the Tom Clancy inspirations which I think the author acknowledged. My only gripe is the redacted words but I understand why it had to be done and the author made light of it. Overall, a good read. I enjoyed it. Might pick up the next book when it goes on sale.

I grew up on war stories as they were what my dad and aunt both Marines loved. My Navy mother liked the spy thrillers. These books combine them both. Love the Terminal List TV series and now Dark Wolf…..it doesn’t get any better.
  • Way too much meaningless backstory

Read the first two chapters and then skip to chapter 31 where the plot unfolds. The intervening chapters cast Reece as “The Old Man and the Sea”, Thor Heyerdahl and “Ramar of the Jungle”. The backstories of each character have little to do with moving the plot forward.

Okay, so this one takes a while to get going. But then it takes off. And so many twists and turns along the way. Thought I had something figured out but I didn’t. Hope the series continues. Action and Human Emotion wrapped up in one.
